All right, the first post is always the hardest, so I’m just going to get this one out of the way.
I missed the super bowl this past weekend (well, I caught the last 35 seconds), but I was anxious to check out the ads. Since this is supposed to be a blog about interactive advertising, I should probably talk about the ads from an interactive perspective, but fuck it, I really just want to say how much I love Alec Baldwin.
Also I’ll toss a quick nod to Hulu for putting together this great embeddable super bowl ad widget. I wish the videos played in the widget itself, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers. I’m a huge fan of Hulu in general: whenever my DVR shits the bed and misses the last few minutes of my favorite show, or I need a quick MacGruber fix, Hulu is the first place I turn.
Hulu also had the best super bowl commercial by far, in my opinion. Seriously: how fucking awesome is Alec Baldwin these days? Ridiculous voice mails aside, he’s about my favorite person on the screens.
Here’s the ad:
A tip of the hat to my old friends at CP+B for knocking this one out of the park. It wasn’t widely covered when they landed this particular piece of business (that must have been intentional… their PR machine is second-to-none), but I’ve really got to hand it to them for this piece of unexpected irreverence.
Anyway, enough about ads.
With respect to this blog in general, I have a couple modest goals. I’d like to use it as an archive for my thoughts on interactive advertising, I’ll probably do a bit of show and tell here and there, and I’d like to create a place to point out artists and people I know and respect in the industry. I’ve tried using del.icio.us in the past to store links, but it never really worked for me. Probably because it’s a bit too easy to post, and therefore, too easy for me to forget to post there. Every now and then I log in an put another link or two up, and then six months go by before I return.
Hopefully that won’t happen with this blog. I hope to get in the habit, and if I’m really lucky, some people will come along for the ride.
Stay tuned.
